"The South bay was supposedly as much a "Blues" community as it was Punk Rock so I felt obliged to write a blues arrangement in the tradition of Robert Johnson or Sonny Boy Williamson Trad Arr". By this time in early 92', G.e. had recently lost the services of drummer Greg Tarpley who moved on to other punk rock outfits around the South bay but Hagins quickly called upon Martin Silva - who had previously been in G.e. up until June of 1991. "When we lost Tarpley, that was devestating" says Hagins "Because Greg was such an even and tightly powerful drummer,..he rarely made mistakes,...but when i discovered that Marty was available, I inquired if he wanted to come back,...He was a bit bitter because I had made the difficult decision (And looking back now very regretable dreadful) of asking him to leave the group for various reasons I won't go into now in early 91',....When me and Ted got back with Marty, we were like 'shit ,..how could we have let this guy get away ??". Marty Silva's hard powerful drumming would propel G.e. in their final gigs and only one more G.e. gig would be played with him after this one....that ofcourse being the show at Nomad's Club in March of 1992 - A concert performance that Clark Hagins would describe as one of the best and tightest Greenhouse Effect concert's he had ever witnessed ,..but unfortunately no audience showed and it wasn't filmed by Hagins brother or G.e's often camera man Jeff Hrzina either sadly. "That show at Nomad's took G.e. to high levels - we were incredible that night and I had arranged to have two A & R men at the gig - but they never showed either !! Man,..it was a bummer because even though there were only like three people in the crowd ,..and that would be Jeff Hrzina, Andy Vest, and Hrzina's Girlfriend,....I still would have to call our performance that night simply unreal ,...we were clicking on all three cylanders and Marty Silva and his drumming were the key !!". In April of 1992, Hagins and the slowly drifting away bassist Rick Carmody (Ted) would hook up with Danish Drummer Palle Carlson in the final 'phase' incarnation of G.e. where the band would begin to attempt to play 1991 demos of "White Black Thang", Manipulation, and others. "There was also something interesting to the Palle Carlson on drums phase" says Clark Hagins "Though his drumming wasn't nearly as good and powerful as Silva or Greg Tarpley's....In a three piece, the drummer simply has to be incredible and dynamic and I would say that Palle was just 'skilled',...slowly, he learned all of the G.e. elements but it was too late because Ted was leaving". In the summer of 1992, Rick Carmody fled the band to join the South Bay punk rock Group "The One handed Readers. "The Readers had big crowds and they were popular" says Hagins "It was right at a time where G.e. was in serious decline but it was also the time that we should have been simply exploding !!,..But Nirvana and other new alternative bands ,...they put an end to our enthusiasm,....We were crushed at their success,...for one thing, Me and Ted were sorta these former 'recovering' heavy metal dudes,...We knew all about technical music and bands like Zep and Deep purple as well as the Who,...When we saw Nirvana we thought that they sucked,...over the years, Ted has probobly been brainwashed on all that shit,..but I haven't changed,...I still think Nirvana sucks,...they were just an image and a gimmick,..I've listened to too much David Bowie and Iggy and Rush to fall for all that shit".... Hagins says that when Carmody drifted away,..it was for good,...and that G.e. has never come back..."Whats the point anyway" says Hagins "Nobody went to our gigs and we were like this awesome band and nobody cared,..we were right in the middle of like these changing times,..and we couldn't adapt but it was so weird because we like invented it all,..we got lost in the woodwork and ultimately, we wound up in the wilderness of Rock music history,..now, the Great G.e. is just a joke ,..We're like that metal band Anvil,..We are a novelty,..when we should have been one of the greatest things of all time,..but as I look back at my life, THAT is how it has always gone,..ya know,..i was really supposed to marry 'her' and shit like that",...or "I" was supposed to be in that class room with all my cool friends and at the last minute I just by fate happened to notice my name was crossed off the list and I was mysteriously moved to some other class with all the nobodys.....I just hope that God doesn't cross me off the list for Heaven at the last minute but something tells me you just know what ya know,....all these recent last few years,..I'm so pissed off at it all that I laugh and I'm not even pissed off at all ,..ya know,..its so pathetic ,..I'm like numb,...I'm just like a vegitable,..imagine that,..the Great Clark the Shark who wrote and played all the instruments on two of the South bay and Los Angeles' best cd's of all time - is just numb,..and doesn't give a frank fuck anymore,..about anything,...So I'm just a dumb ass Pool cleaner now,...oh boy". "That was a great time and we were a great band,...I'm sure there were more than a few people who knew that we were Los Angeles' best band but it doesn't do much good if nobody goes to yer gigs,...Lemme tell ya though, When G.e. were on those 'multiple band' benefit shows where there was an audience that 'had' to watch us,...they were always blown away ,..at what they saw,...Many stunned people would come up to me after shows and they would say shit like : "Gee dude,...I don't understand,...everybody says that you guys suck - but like ,..you guys DON'T SUCK at all !!" ============================ "I really love God's Joke,..the little blues song" says Guitarist Clark Hagins. The final sessions with Keegan were at Pendragon Studios in North Redondo Beach in May of 90' - a studio which I believe is still now owned by Don Dokken - if you look at that final video from 1992 that me, Ted (Rick Carmody on bass) and Palle shot with Jeff Hrzina our camera man, you can see all this concert gear that has "Dokken" stamped all over it - in the background.. -- ..."Precarious" is Sick !!" says Clark Hagins "That Song was always amazing Live with Flipper and me both rocking out a clinic in Garage Power,....and Ted too ,..he contributed much always to G.e." Precarious is the Song that introduced G.e. to the World as it is the very first track from February 1988's "Global Warming" cd. Immediately Like 6 major Labels called my house phone inquiring about it,...I remember that Craig Aaronson at Geffen Records told me that he had 'never heard anything like it before in his life" but that still he didn't feel it in his heart somehow - I know its not exactly really a 'liberal' song - its too concerned with truthfulness.....it really does sound good when you crank it up loud - I tell people - don't listen to my songs quietly down low volume,..they don't work that way - you gotta crank them LOUDLY,...they are classics,..sorta alot like Ziggy era David Bowie,..thats how we are". Hagins says that he didn't officially begin to rethink the potential of 'White Black' until nearly one year after it was recorded when the L.A. Riots happened; "They had Rodney King on tv in the middle of the riots and he was just devestated and suddenly he uttered "we're all stuck here" and when i heard that - I was stunned,..I 'knew' that that was a moment that God - The Lord was talking to 'me' and 'only ' to 'me',...thats when i was like "oh shit,..I missed my own boat !! I blew it,....I immediately began mass marketing the song everywhere and everybody liked it but people were like ,..damn,...this song is powerful,..its scary -yet its cheesey too,..man its weird,..its got it all,..its silly, its funny, its controversial, its lame,..and all at the same time,..its really GOOD !!!" - "ITS THE DEFINITION OF A CLASSIC" Says Hagins. Bush's Gulf War ( Hagins could easily for-see the coming War as Saddam and his men refused to leave Kuwait Summer 1990)... who fell into the underworld of spending all his money for drugs and black prostitute women. "Maury" would be the character that Hagins would resurrect from his earlier 1985 and 86' era ambitions before hooking up with Guitarist Phil Keegan (Dr. Phil) and Greenhouse Effect in Redondo Beach California. In 1990 September, G.e. and Keegan had suddenly parted ways and Hagins and bassist Rick Carmody found themselves immersed in a recording project of some 72 songs,..ofcourse unable to record them all due to no record label interest or enough money of their own, Carmody and Hagins turned to Lomita California's A.L.S. STUDIOS and producer Andrew "Dice" Houston who also worked with the Mentors amongst others. "Hey Negrita" and "Star" would come barreling out of the speakers as new great idea concepts for G.e's "idealism" vision of a world they sought...totally different from their work with Keegan earlier. NOW,..its just an unfortunate thing,..we were like Rush - and we didn't even know it,.... - GREENHOUSE EFFECT'S BRANDY burst out to over 900,000 plays at youtube in 2005 and 2006 as did many other G.e. songs "we were one of the only bands doing videos in 2005" says Clark Hagins "there weren't any other bands then to look at -except US,...WE JUST EXPLODED WITH BRANDY AND WHITE BLACK,..and other songs too like "The Magic Man" had like 245,000 Views at Youtube,..then one day I went to login and it said ; "This account is closed" I tried again and it said "this account has been deleted due to copyright issues" - and i thought that WAS THE END OF IT,....BUT THEN WE STARTED REALLY GOIN' OFF HUGE AT GOOGLE !! EVEN BIGGER THAN YOUTUBE - WAY BIGGER !!!! Greenhouse Effect is an Internet Rock band (Citation needed), heavily linked world wide to many websites and mLm marketing sites via the Zeus 1000 Marketing robot as well as other internet marketing techniques. In 2008, the band was probobly the 'most viewed' "Alternative rock band (citation needed)" in the world, led by their 1992 song "Brandy" and their 1989 track "A Current Affair". The main fixture and focus point of the band is 43 year old California Swimming Pool cleaner Clark hagins of Oceanside California. Higgins left the group as it disbanded in November of 1992. Higgins always and often claimed he would one day 'return' to music and G.e. but this has not been the case. In 1998, Higgins briefly played drums again with South Bay (Redondo Beach Torrance) band Svengali for about two months before his dismissal. Bassist Rick "Ted" Carmody left G.e. sometime in the summer of 1992 or just before as he does not play bass on any G.e. material past February 1991's 'Going Legit' album which featured the South Bay hits 'Ben is dead" and "Star". Its debatable South Bay legend... in the South Bay when exactly Carmody joined 'The One Handed Readers' a group from the North Redondo area , possibly comprised of people associated with South Bay inline Roller Hockey - the sport which Higgins and Carmody often played.... In the summer of 1991, Higgins recorded a song in response to the May 1991 beating of Rodney G. King called "A White Black Thang" but decided to 'never release the song' as he moved onto other material as the nature of the lyrics too controversial and graphic...as the song exclaims "NO more whites , no more blacks" ,..strangely ironically in a twist, later after the April 1992 Los Angeles Riots, King would utter Higgins' line of "We're all stuck here" which stunned Higgins and on May 11, 1992 Higgins rush released a song he planned 'never to release' , selling the song at about 20 local record shops among them Peanut Records in Lomita, Alternative groove in Hermosa beach (Owned by Mark theodore - of theologan records fame-, and ofcourse the "Go-boy" record store {Redondo Beach -citation needed} ,..who played Higgins songs on loud speakers the day it was released and all day long for bewildered customers,....after the band disbanded, Higgins says he 'went into a weird depression' often thinking of G.e. ,..but 'never going there' again....he took to a job in Beverly Hills california mowing lawns and landscaping at a wealthy arabs estate mansian,...in 1995 Higgins began to 'mainly write poetry and bits and pieces of 'song ideas' many of which never came to fruition...in 1996, higgins left the job in Bel Air and returned to the South bay where he took up working for A to Z Pool and spa service in Torrance ,..a trade which Higgins keeps as his main source of income to this day (in 1997 he ventured south to san diego's 'north county' area of Carlsbad and oceanside),....in about 2002 to 2004 and early 2005, higgins began to twiddle with the internet,...mainly hanging out in aol's 'political chatrooms' doing debate with liberal and conservative fellow chatters and 'posters',....in possibly 1999 or 2000, or 2001, higgins and his bass playing friend Dave Basen from Torrance had uploaded some of higgins songs to the mp3.com new music website idea,....at the time, mp3's could take up to over one hour to upload,...but other than higgins first 'blog incarnation - description of g.e. and the 'fountain' musical project,...nuthing much more really came from it,..and higgins rarely checked mp3.com again,....until one day in possibly 2003 or 2004 when higgins noticed hits and reviews of his music and his 1992 song "Addicted" and also 1992's IRIE BOB,.....For years, higgins fiddled around with the internet but really didn't know what to do,....often sending curious emails to small labels and learning about this new thing called Myspace or communicating via email with whome where ever he could,...sometime in possibly late or mid 2007, Higgins discovered the Googlevideo.com service,...and he began to make 'videos' of his old band G.e. - long an obsession for higgins,....., using Windows movie maker (citation needed) higgins began to find the groove to make more 'high quality videos' for his songs of long ago,....when he discovered one day his video for 'White black thang' in the number one position at Google video,...thinking it was a mistake, higgins went to a Kinkos copies in vista california and looked again to low and behold find his song as the 'number one in demand video' at Google,..staying on their page for four days in a row !! The outrageous funny 1992 videos which featured higgins, carmody, and swedish drummer palle karlson had sat unused in higgins storage for nearly 15 years unseen,..and had become an instant smash hit at Google,..quickly amounting some of google's top plays 'and' downloads,..possibly for the humor aspect,..but possibly for the quality of the ancient 1992 hit styled song itself !! higgins uploaded more videos in a hurry but no other g.e. video has rivaled White/black except for maybe 1992's BRANDY,...another hit song apparent that landed higgins high into google viewership and downloads,...the google analytics counter officially stopped sometime in late 2008 with Higgins videos last clocked in at about 100 and 20 million world wide views,.....possibly inspiring record labels to more frequently 'use bots' in an effort to keep up with Higgins and G.e.
